National Salt Limited (NSL) proudly inaugurated its newly constructed Administration and Warehouse Complex at the Mannar Saltern on 27 th August 2026. This landmark project, fully funded by NSL from its own income, represents a Rs. 24.5 million investment and demonstrates the company’s commitment to reinvesting profits in national development.
The ceremonial opening was graced by Hon. Sunil Handunnetti, Minister of Industry and Entrepreneurship Development, as Chief Guest, with the participation of Hon. Mayilvaganam Jegadeeswaran, MP for Wanni District, Mr. S. Sivashankar (Chairman), Mr. M. J. T. Manzil (General Manager),
and other senior officials.
Looking ahead, NSL has set its sights on another transformative initiative: renovating and reactivating the Kurinchattivu Saltern, which has remained abandoned for over 30 years. Once operational, this saltern will play a crucial role in meeting Sri Lanka’s industrial salt demand locally, thereby reducing reliance on imports and saving valuable foreign exchange. Through these strategic projects, NSL continues to strengthen its position as a key contributor to the national economy while ensuring sustainable growth for Sri Lanka's salt industry.
